(Mostly Organic) Homemade Snicker Bars

 (Mostly Organic)
Homemade Snickers Bars
makes one 9×13 pan or 1 Hefty EZ foil 1/4 sheet cake size disposable pan
This is a great recipe for kids learning to cook.
bottom chocolate layer
1 1/4 cups organic semi sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup organic smooth peanut butter
Thoroughly grease you baking pan. Melt ingredients together in a saucepan or microwave, then pour into the baking dish and spread until even. Let cool and harden completely.
nougat layer
1/4 cup unsalted organic butter
1 cup granulated organic sugar
1/4 cup evaporated milk (I would think you could get this organic too but I am still looking)
1 1/2 cups marshmallow fluff- (I am looking into how to make this homemade- stay tuned)
1/4 cup organic smooth peanut butter
1 1/2 cup salted peanuts chopped, roughly chopped- (Emerald has a no MSG brand)
1 tsp organic vanilla extract
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add in sugar and milk, stirring until dissolved and bring to a boil. Let cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add in fluff, peanut butter and vanilla, stirring until smooth. Turn off heat and fold in peanuts, then pour over bottom chocolate layer. Let cool completely.
caramel layer
1 14-ounce bag of caramels
1/4 cup whipping cream
Combine ingredients in a saucepan over low heat. Let melt, stirring occasionally, until smooth – this took about 10 minutes for me. Pour over nougat layer and let cool completely.
OR TO AVOID CORN SYRUP I used this for Caramel Layer
1 10oz Trader Jacques Fleur de sel Carmel Sauce ( purchased at Trader Joe's)
Heat just enough to allow caramel to spread easily.  Pour over nougat layer and let cool completely
Top chocolate layer
1 1/4 cups milk chocolate chips
1/4 cup peanut butter
Melt ingredients together in a saucepan or microwave, then pour over caramel and spread until even. Let cool and harden completely.
Refrigerate for at least one hour before serving, then cut as desired. These can stay at room temperature, but they do get gooey. Refrigerated is best.

Book em Danno

How a Sake Mom freaks herself out ?

Kind of goes like this....
Someone tells me about a book explaining that children who are not read to cannot visualize or "play movies" in their head.  The children have always had images shown to them via computers/TV so they miss learning how to create the images for themselves.
So I start thinking about -what if- in the future-only a small group can visualize and they create and control all the images.
And how would they use that power. Eeeek.

Grab a book.  Save the World !!
But watch this Oscar Nominated Video first.
Oh the irony....

"The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
is one of five animated short films that will be considered for
outstanding film achievements of 2011 in the 84th Academy Awards ®."

"Inspired, in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, “Morris Lessmore” is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor.
Morris Lessmore is a poignant, humorous allegory about the curative powers of story. Using a variety of techniques (miniatures, computer animation, 2D animation) award winning author/ illustrator William Joyce and Co-director Brandon Oldenburg present a new narrative experience that harkens back to silent films and M-G-M Technicolor musicals. “Morris Lessmore” is old fashioned and cutting edge at the same time."
